During the ceremony, president Hichilema highly commended the project, highlighting its role in the transformation of Luapula Province's power supply situation, which had depended solely on a small hydropower station for six decades. The project has effectively reduced power shortages for both residential and industrial users. He emphasized that the plant would strongly enhance the province's sustainable development and is crucial for Zambia's effort to combat climate change, boost economic growth, and diversify energy sources. President Hichilema also commended CMEC for delivering the project with high quality and professionalism.
The 50MW (AC) grid-connected PV power project in Luapula Province marks CMEC's first photovoltaic power plant in Africa. The project comprises a 65 MWp/50 MWac PV power plant, a 33/132kV PV step-up substation and an 11-kilometer double-circuit transmission line. It achieved temporary grid connection in December 2025 and began commercial operation in April 2026. The project team remains committed to completing the remaining work and providing warranty services, and pledges to continue maintaining high standards and high quality for future projects.

The commissioning of the power plant not only brings light to thousands of Zambian households but also stands as a vivid example of China-Africa cooperation in green energy. Looking ahead, CMEC will continue to work closely with partners worldwide to support local economic development and improve people's livelihood through more clean energy projects, contributing its wisdom and strength to high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and the deepening of international friendship and collaboration.
